Victory for Manipur boys

Imphal, May 22: Manipur boys had a comfortable victory against Jammu & Kashmir by 11-1 runs on the second day of the 18th sub-junior National Baseball Championship (Boys’ and Girls’) 2008 played at Mapal Kangjeibung here today.

The win gave Manipur an undefeated run in the championship as Manipur outscored its opponent without much ado. For Manipur, N. Prem Singh and N. Kumar Singh were the highest scorer with three runs each, while T. Ranjit Singh and T. David Singh chipped in with two useful runs and N. Angamba added one run for the team total of 11.

On the other hand, the Jammu & Kashmir team toiled hard but the lone resistance came from captain Rashid Akbar Bhat who managed a solo run for his team and conceded defeat.

In another match, Rajasthan defeated Chhattisgarh by 6-2 runs.

For the winning team, Pratik was the highest contributor with two runs while Manjit, Prashant, Ravinder and Deep contributed one run each.

For Chhattisgarh, Sai Pesh and Pradip scored one run each. In the Delhi-Haryana encounter, Delhi drubbed the latter 11-0.

In the girls’ section, Goa defeated Kerala by 11-0 runs, while Maharashtra defeated West Bengal 11-5 and Madhya Pradesh defeated Kerala by 12-1 runs today.

The Amateur Baseball Federation of India, along with Manipur Amateur Baseball Association officials have admitted to “a grave mistake” in one of yesterday’s matches involving Manipur.

In the girls’ match result given to the media, Manipur was shown defeating Himachal Pradesh by 16-4 runs. But Himachal Pradesh is yet to report for the championship.
