Showers dampen sporting spirit

Jamshedpur, May 20: The rains played spoilsport at the sports grounds in the steel city today.

The super division match between Burmamines Stude-nts’ Association and Adivasi Association at Gopal Maidan was washed out due to rains.

The JSA hockey league tie between Tata Motors and Urban Services at Keenan Stadium also met the same fate.

Football Coaching Centre (FCC) players met with a better fate as they defeated Jaipal Sporting Club (JSC) 4-0 in an A-division tie of the ongoing McDowell’s Celebration-Jamshedpur Sporting Association soccer league at Armoury grounds.

J. Mohan Boipai’s brace was the cornerstone in FCC’s win over JSC. The outfit maintained its vice-like grip over the proceedings after Prakash Bhumij scored the opening goal in the 15th minute.

Boipai brought up the score to 2-0 in the 28th minute. A swift right-footer sent the ball swinging past the JSC goalkeeper much to the delight of Boipai’s colleagues and supporters of the team who had turned up in good numbers. Success was sweet and indeed hard-earned for the winning team which played well even on a wet ground.

FCC mid-fielders displayed fine tackling and passing skills, making the job of JSC players that much difficult.

Sonaram Tudu scored the third goal for the winning team in the 48th before Boipai thrust in his brace with a solid left-footer from just outside the JSC penalty box in the 57th minute.
