Scholar dead

Maulana Abdul Haq, Islamic scholar and leading face of minority politics in the state, passed away at his Hatigaon residence on Monday night. He was 80 years old. The janeja (last rite) was performed at Garigaon on Tuesday.

Suicide

A hotel employee, Bipul Das, 45, was found hanging with a gamocha at his residence in Athgaon on Tuesday. Police suspect it to be a case of suicide. Das hails from Goalpara district.

The GMC on Tuesday pulled down illegal billboards, put up at RP Road in Ganeshguri.
