Top schools score 100%

The ICSE and ISC results brought glad tidings to many city schools on Tuesday, with all the examinees in most of the schools passing.

La Martiniere, St Xavier’s, Modern High, St James, Future Foundation, MP Birla Foundation, Welland Gouldsmith, Rammohan Mission, Heritage, Delhi Public School, Rajasthan Vidyamandir and Vivekananda Mission are some of the schools that recorded 100 per cent success.

“The performance of our students in English and mathematics was amazing. The scientific marking system enabled students with the right training to score full marks,” said Terence Ireland, the principal of St James.

Calcutta, with a pass percentage of 97.72, however, is behind the 99 per cent-plus pass figure in the south (Bangalore, Hyderabad and Chennai combined) and west (Mumbai and Pune combined).

The 280 ICSE schools in the city — the highest in the country — have collectively done better than only the schools in the north (Lucknow and Kanpur combined).

In ISC, too, Calcutta’s success rate of 96.91 per cent is behind the rates of the south and the west and is a shade better than the corresponding figure for the north.

“Calcutta is lagging marginally behind other major cities in terms of results, but schools in Bengal are improving their performance every year,” said Gerry Arathoon, the additional secretary and the officiating chief executive of the Council of Indian School Certificate Examinations.

The all-India pass percentage in ICSE is 98.04 per cent, up 0.08 per cent from last year.

The nationwide pass percentage in ISC is 97.04, also up 0.8 per cent from last year.
