Imphal, May 19: Youth Organisation Sporting Club, Khurai defeated Thoubal District Basketball Association today 40-26 in a match of the 26th state-level sub-junior basketball championship.

The event was organised by Manipur Basketball Association at Uripok Achom Leikai ground since yesterday.

The Khurai team opened their score with a flurry of baskets with W. Keniber Singh putting in 10 while Th. Naocha Singh and H. Dinesh Singh scored nine each. Th. Dayananda later scored six baskets while H. Myson Singh chipped in with four for Youth Organisation Sporting Club today.

W. Malemnganba Singh was the highest scorer for the Thoubal team, putting in seven baskets while W. Dinesh Singh with six, W. Yaiphaba with five, and W. Jonish Singh and M. Sandip Singh with two baskets each, were the other notable scorers.

In the another match, Eastern Sporting Union, Wangkhei defeated Lalambung Makhong Youth Voluntary Association by a narrow margin of 47-42 score. Y. Babloo Singh scored 16 baskets, Y. Kanta 12, L. Boy nine, H. James and Th. Basanta four baskets each and Sh. Lincoln added two for the Sporting Union team.

As for the Lalambung Makhong team, N. Lubert’s highest score of 16 cages went in vain. The other notable scorers were N. Austin with 13 baskets, S. Atiya and A. Dollar with four each, while A. Surjit, S. Rustam and N. Dulan chipped in with two baskets each.
