Rs 2.5cr gold theft

Ludhiana, May 19 (PTI): Gold worth Rs 2.5 crore has gone missing from the fourth-floor office of a Gurgaon-based finance company. Police suspect an inside job.

The locks were found intact and nothing else appeared amiss, police said today. The company lends money against gold as security or mortgage.

Kerala MLA

New Delhi (PTI): The Supreme Court on Monday stayed a Kerala High court order setting aside the election of CPM MLA M.J. Jacob from Piravom Assembly constituency. The apex court, in an interim order, allowed Jacob to participate in the Kerala Assembly proceedings while withholding his power to vote and draw his salary. The high court had held the election of Jacob invalid, finding him guilty of corrupt practices.

E-ticket move

New Delhi (PTI): The railways have introduced the waitlist e-ticketing service for all trains. Earlier, only confirmed tickets were available through the service.

Ramayan

New Delhi (PTI): Delhi High Court has given the green signal to Delhi University to teach an article on the Ramayan, dismissing a petition seeking to ban it for its alleged “defamatory” and “derogatory” portrayal of Hindu gods. It held that the history undergraduate syllabus of the university was based on “well-researched” material.

Cabbie attack

Melbourne (PTI): Two men brutally beat an Indian cabbie in Adelaide and stole his taxi. Balraj Singh was severely injured in the face and his nose was broken in the attack by the passengers. This is the second such incident here in the last three weeks.

Tourist dead

Thiruvananthapuram (PTI): A 29-year-old Chinese woman tourist was found dead in her room in a private resort at Papanasam beach at Varkala near here, police said on Monday. Zhoyan, from Beijing, had come to India on a tourist visa on May 15. The police said she had an injury on the back of her head. They suspect she could have fallen down from the cot.
