Bayern greats

Bayern Munich greats Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and Oliver Kahn will kick off the Calcutta police-organised para football championship on May 25, police commissioner Gautam Mohan Chakrabarti said on Monday. More than 500 teams will participate in the tournament. A few players from the winning team will fly to Munich for a training session, said Chakrabarti.

Murder arrest

Two men have been arrested on charges of hijacking a truck and killing its driver and his help in February. Police said Shiv Prasad and Dinesh Jadav went missing on February 18. A few days later, Dinesh’s body was found in Dhanbad. he sleuths said Rana Singh, a truck driver, and his help Rajdeo Ram had drugged both Prasad and Dinesh when they stopped at a dhaba at Jinjirabazar, on the southern city fringes. After the duo fell unconscious, they strangled them and dumped their bodies in Jharkhand. “We have arrested Ram and Bishnu Agarwal, who had procured the drugs,” said an officer.

Knocked down

Shanti Gupta, 60, died after being knocked down by a taxi on MG Road on Monday evening. The woman was taken to Medical College and Hospital, where she was declared dead.

Suicide

Jayanti Ghosh, 31, committed suicide by setting herself ablaze in her in-laws’ house in Watgunge on Monday. The father-in-law and husband have been held.
