Ranchi, May 16: Arrested CPI(Maoist) member Pramod Mishra has divulged little about Naxalites’ immediate action plan, but the police are loathe to admit as much.
Despite being grilled by policemen from Andhra Pradesh and interrogation specialists of Intelligence Bureau and Special Branch, Mishra has said little. The officials, to a large extent, are now convinced that Mishra does not have much idea about the “field operations”, because he was not involved with it.
Mishra, arrested in Dhanbad a few days ago, has been taken on five-day police remand. Sources said that he is being interrogated in Ranchi.
Policemen from Andhra Pradesh have left after quizzing him. Mishra is learnt to have confirmed his organisation’s hand behind certain violent incidents in Andhra Pradesh. At present the officials of Intelligence Bureau and Special Branch are grilling him. Tomorrow, another team from Patna is expected here.
None of the superintendents of police posted in Naxalite-affected districts or the senior officials involved in anti-Maoist operations have shown interest in interrogating Mishra, since he was not an area commander or the zonal commander of the rebels.
“Mishra mainly explained to us how his organisation was rapidly spreading its base in Haryana and Delhi. He even claimed that the Maoists would soon be able to form their own government, if things continued to proceed like this. Some of the information provided by him are real eye-openers,” said an officer involved in the interrogation.
Another officer said that Naxalism would continue to bloom unless honest efforts were made to administer justice to poor.
