Painted treasures
Just as a miner delves into the recesses of the earth, seeking out precious stones of unique quality and lustre, collector Sumanta Paul also searches for and procures visual treasures of the Indian art world. Uncovering valuable, hidden works of art as from an undiscovered mine, his attempts in this regard have always been directed towards encouraging and supporting up-coming artists, as well as to honour stalwarts of the field. Mines— Jewel of Mines, the ongoing art exhibition, presents the culmination of his efforts till date to bring together the works of legendary and contemporary artists under a single roof. Truly national in composition, outlook and character, it offers art lovers a visually beautiful, aesthetically pleasing and soul-inspiring collection. Featuring paintings by iconic greats like Ramkinkar Baij, M.F. Husain, S.H. Raza (a painting by him appears here), K.G. Subramaniyan, V.S. Gaitonde and K.M. Adimoolam, it also includes works by eminent contemporary artists like Jogen Chowdhury, Prokash Karmakar, Manu Parekh, Himmat Shah and Laxma Goud, as well as by artists of the 21st century, Samir Aich, Prasenjit Sengupta, Partha Shaw, Arpan Bhowmik and Subrata Saha.
