Children injured in Prosenjit shoot

Siliguri, May 14: Three children were injured when a tractor ploughed into a crowd watching the shooting of a Prosenjit starrer at Gulmakhari today.

The children, aged between four and five years, were treated for minor injuries at a nursing home where they had been taken by the crew which was forced to pack up for the day. The actor, who was shooting a song sequence for the unnamed Swapan Saha film, was rescued by police from the spot near Milan More, 10km from here, after the crowd went on the rampage.

Prosenjit plays the role of a milkman in the film, whose budget he refused to divulge. He was driving the first of the three tractors. “The others were being driven by two extras,” said Santosh Routh, the production manager of the unit.

“Suddenly, one of the extras lost control of the vehicle, which made straight for the bystanders. Thankfully, it was moving slowly. Three children were injured and so was our cameraman Rana Dasgupta,” he said.

The local people confined the unit members for around an hour demanding compensation for the accident.

“They should be more careful while shooting here,” said Gopi Chetri, a local resident of Milanmore.

Arun Mondal, one of the doctors who had attended to Komal Mangar, Rita Mangar and Sujata Burman, said the three were released after they were administered first aid.

“All of them had suffered bruises,” the doctor said.

“The entire incident was unfortunate and we have lost a valuable day of shooting. I don’t know when we will be able to resume as I have heard that our camera was damaged,” said Prosenjit, whose heroine in this film is Anu Chowdhury from Orissa.

For Komal, the film shoot was more exciting than Prosenjit. “I heard that a ‘hero’ had come. But I couldn’t see much because it was so crowded,” said the five-year-old Nepali girl, a bit awed by the flurry of activity that followed after she fell. “But I liked the car ride the most,” added the girl.

After the police intervened, two cars, one with Prosenjit and the other with the three girls and their parents, had left the site for the nursing home. The actor, however, went straight to his hotel.
