Nagaon, May 14: Darrang College, Tezpur, and Nalbari College stormed into the quarter-finals of the Gauhati University inter-college tournament at Nurul Amin Stadium here today.
In the last league matches today, Darrang College rode an unbeaten century by state junior player Roshan Basfore to tame Gauhati University Law College by 120 runs while Nalbari College eased past Abhayapuri College by four wickets.
In the first match, Darrang College elected to bat and managed to put 184 runs on the board losing six wickets in 25 overs chasing which the Gauhati University Law College batsmen were skittled out for a paltry 64 in 20.2 overs.
Basfore slammed the Law College bowlers for six fours and as many sixes to score an unbeaten 108 while Vivek Jajodia remained not out on 19. Imtiaz Rahman chipped in with 17 runs. Sonal Doley and Debajit Bori of Law College picked up two wickets each conceding 20 and 27 runs respectively.
For Law College, Sonal Doley topscored with 14 runs while the rest failed to reach double digits as they wilted under the heat of Nazir Boras match-winning spell of five wickets for five runs in his five overs. Imtiaz Rahman claimed one wicket for 18 runs.
In the other match, Abhayapuri College elected to bat and were bundled out for 72 in 22.3 overs. In reply, Nalbari College reached 74 for six in 16.5 overs.
Syed Azid Ali with his score of 11 was the only Abhayapuri College batsman to score in double digits. Kaushik Das and Jitu Deka of Nalbari College picked up three wickets each giving away 18 and 19 runs respectively.
Nikhilesh Mishra and Tridip Dutta scored 24 runs each for Nalbari College while Gulam Hussain and Rahul Das picked up two wickets each for five and eight runs respectively.
Hosts Nowgong College will play Biswanath College and Bajali College will meet Morigaon College in the two quarter-final matches tomorrow.
