Youth held on kidnap charge
Mukesh Hari, 21, was arrested on Thursday on charges of kidnapping a girl from Howrah. Police said Nayan Kumari, 13, a resident of Howrah’s Narsingha Dutta Road, went missing on Tuesday evening. A missing diary was lodged with Bantra police station. The girl was rescued on Thursday morning from Mukesh’s house. The youth has been remanded in judicial custody.
Homemaker drowns
A 22-year-old homemaker died after falling into the Hoogly at Dakshineswar on Thursday afternoon. Police said Rupa Mondal, a Baranagar resident, had gone to Dakshineswar with her husband to offer puja.
Run over
Two persons died after being run over by a train at Barasat station on Thursday morning. Police said a Bongaon-bound local train hit a woman who got trapped while crossing the tracks. A man who came to her rescue was also run over. Both were declared dead at Barasat hospital.
Dowry arrest
A Kasba resident was arrested for allegedly torturing his wife for dowry on Thursday. Anjana, 29, lodged a complaint against husband Bablu Roy Chowdhury, 36, after which she was arrested. Bablu worked in a private company.
Flight cancelled
A Biman Bangladesh flight was cancelled on Thursday evening because of bad weather in the city. The Calcutta-Dhaka flight was scheduled to take off from NCS Bose International Airport at 7.20pm. Airline officials cancelled it around 9.30pm. The passengers will be accommodated on another flight.
An Emirates airlines flight connecting Dubai and Dhaka was diverted to Calcutta airport because of bad weather in Dhaka. The flight landed in the city at 8.35pm, but the passengers were not allowed to disembark from the aircraft.
Airport officials said the flight was scheduled to leave for Dhaka later at night. |
