Man killed in highway mishap
Dibrugarh: A person was killed while six others, including a bride and groom, were injured in a road accident around 2am on Sunday. The accident took place at Rupohimukh under Gaurisagar police station in Sivasagar.
They were on their way from Sarupathar in Golaghat after attending the wedding ceremony. Police said the accident took place as the driver lost control of his vehicle and hit a truck which was parked on National Highway 37.
Protest
Imphal: Meira Paibis (women activists) of Chingmeirong Khongnang Karak on Sunday staged a sit-in in their locality here to protest against the firing at the residence of a retired government official on Saturday. Unidentified men came in a car and opened fire at the residence of Kokamani Singh at 8.30pm. No one was injured.
Arrested
Dhubri: Three fake gold racketeers, identified as Manik Sheikh, Kobbat Ali and Siddique Ali, were arrested by Gauripur police with half-kg fake gold on Saturday. Police sources said they have been duping women.
Bangladeshi held
Dhubri: A Bangladeshi national, identified as Ali Hussain of Telipra village in Kurigram district of Bangladesh, was apprehended with Rs 14,000 fake Indian currency by BSF jawans in Mancachar border under Dhubri district on Saturday night.
