Tinsukia top medals tally

Nagaon, May 4: Tinsukia emerged overall champions in the 34th junior inter-district athletics championship that concluded at Nurul Amin Stadium today.

The Tinsukia athletes tallied 18 gold, eight silver and five bronze medals to top the tally followed by Guwahati with 13 gold, 12 silver and two bronze. Hosts Nagaon tallied a gold, a silver and six bronze while Jorhat, Lakhimpur and North Salmara athletes could not win a single medal in the meet. Biswanath Chariali and Gossaigaon tallied a silver medal each.

Triple jumper Anuj Bora of Guwahati was adjudged the best under-20 boy while sprinter M. Narzary of Kokrajar was named the best under-18 boy.

Sprinter Bitupon Hainary of Tezpur was adjudged the best under-16 boy athlete. In the girls’ section, Guwahati sprinter Manika Basumatary was adjudged the best in the under-20 age group, sprinter Tolumoni Saikia of Tinsukia the best in the under-18 category and sprinter Kiranmoyee Moran of Tinsukia was adjudged the best under-16 girl.
