Hunt down your hubby

Sally Gray, a single, 30-something TV presenter, is getting married. She’s booked the venue, bought the dress and is about to send out the invitations. The problem is she doesn’t have a husband. Embarking on her ‘husband quest’, Discovery Travel & Living’s new reality series How to Find A Husband documents Sally’s 10-week experience as she gives up her day job, clears out her diary and goes on a mission to find herself a husband in time for the wedding. She’s up for the latest speed dating, jumping head-first into the opposites-attract theory, bolt and screw parties, the rigours of long distance and darkness dating, love gurus, psychological profiling, relationship therapy and she’s even willing to track down her first unrequited love and try again.

How to Find A Husband airs every Friday on Discovery Travel & Living at 8pm with a repeat every Sunday at 9am.

Read on for some husband-hunting tips by Sally Gray.

Starting out

Diagnose dating problems

Analysing your past relationships will help you figure out what kind of guy is really right for you and whether or not you’re sending out the right signals to attract that type of guy. Analyse previous mistakes, define expectations and advertise appropriately.

Spread the word

Organise a launch party for Husband Hunting Campaign. Get out there all guns blazing, spread the word and tell everyone what you are up to. Get all your friends involved in your manhunt to generate more enthusiasm and help.

Seek dating advice from someone you trust

Ask for some honest feedback about your personality from people outside your friend circle. They will give you unbiased feedback.

Reassess your image

Take a good look at your wardrobe, make changes with some honest advice and reassess your image. Get an appointment at a hair saloon — it’s never just about having a trim — look good and feel good.

Be open minded — keep your first date short

Try and relax on a date — it’s a conversation not an interview. A lot of women actually turn up at a date with a list of questions and they quite literally interview men, who feel very threatened by this. They want to know how much does he earn, where does he live, who are his friends, where does he go for entertainment? Men just don’t know how to deal with that.

Don’t be too quick to judge — but don’t be ashamed of asking for the very best

There’s nothing wrong with having a list but having a very long list can mean you’re actually restricting yourself because you’ve got very high expectations and that means you might lose out on some incredible relationships.

Techniques

Look close to home

Check for eligible men with your friends and family. Like a lost sock, a potential husband can be much closer to home than you’d expect!

Hire some help

When you’re sick you go to the doctor, if your car has broken down you go to a mechanic. Struggling to find a husband? Consider hiring a dating coach or going to a dating agency.

Carefully pick where you shop

Your top three husband requirements will help determine where to look. If you’re shopping for something special, you go to a specialist shop — if you want a Prada handbag for example, you go to Selfridges. Same goes for husbands — if you’d like him to be sporty, join your local sports club.
