Circuit bench

The legal and human rights wing of the Assam PCC will submit memoranda to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and AICC president Sonia Gandhi to demand the setting up of a circuit bench of the Supreme Court in the city.

Ganja seized

Azara police seized 33kg ganja from a cargo parcel of Jet Airways at Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport at Borjhar on Thursday. Police sources said the consignment was bound for Delhi.

Arrested

Mintu Sangma was arrested from Maligaon on Thursday in connection with a murder case registered at Maligaon police outpost recently.

Tenants

The Greater Noonmati Anchalik Nagarik Samanwayrakshi Samiti has asked village development committees to submit details of tenants residing in their areas to the nearest police station to help weed out miscreants.

Youth festival

The five-day inter college youth festival organised by Gauhati University concluded on Friday. Students from more than 50 colleges participated in it.

Education

Down Town Hospital recently organised a continuing medical education programme on Northeast regional cardiology update, 2008. About 70 cardiologists, medical specialists, physicians and PG students attended it.

Woman dies

Saraswati Roy, a housewife residing in Lalmati, succumbed to burn injuries at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital on Thursday. Her clothes had accidentally caught fire from a stove in her kitchen on April 22.

Programme

The Rotary Club of Dispur organised a free certificate programme in modern office management for educated unemployed youths on Friday.

Celebration

The Brihattar Hatigaon Mahila Samity will celebrate Bohagi Utsav with a daylong function at Sijubari primary school on May 11. Various events like painting and beauty contests will be organised.
