Ranchi, April 27: The Raj Bhavan today denied any query by the Prime Minister’s Office regarding alleged irregularities in rural electrification in the state.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh inaugurated online electrification of 10 villages in Bokaro district on April 22.
A section of the media went ahead alleging that while the electrification work was done only in two villages, the Prime Minister was informed that 10 villages were electrified. It also claimed that the Prime Minister’s Office sought detailed reports from the governor and accordingly, the Raj Bhavan sought explanations from the state government on April 26.
But chief minister Madhu Koda advised the media to be patient and not become a party to petty politics. He also denied having “duped’ the Prime Minister.
“There is no inquiry by the Prime Minister’s Office. On the basis of media reports, we have only sought a status report from the state government,” confirmed principal secretary to the governor, Amit Khare.
State energy secretary Aditya Swaroop said that the basic infrastructure needed to supply electricity to all the 10 villages was ready when the Prime Minister came for inauguration on April 22.
However, due to certain technical glitches, power supply did not begin immediately in some of the villages. The engineers were working day and night to repair the faults.
DVC engineer A.K. Kashyap, who is still camping on the spot to supervise repair work, however, admitted that in five villages only a few localities were electrified.
The remaining five villages were fully electrified.
He argued that according to the rules, even if power supply began in one tola (locality) of a village, it meant that the village was electrified.
