Jamshedpur, April 27: About 10,000 candidates today appeared in the All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) conducted by Central Board for Secondary Education (CBSE) in various centres across the city.
The examination was held at CBSE schools, including St Mary’s, Jamshedpur Public School, Vidyabharati Chinmaya Vidyalaya and DAV Public School. A centre was also allotted at National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Adityapur.
The three-hour paper that included physics, chemistry and mathematics began at 9.30am at all the examination centres under the strict supervision of the board officials. Students appearing in the entrance examination said that each of the sectio- ns had additional five questions in the pattern of IIT entrance test.
“This was for the first time that five additional questions in the pattern of assertion and reasoning were included in each of the sections — physics, chemistry and mathematics. The questions in the physics section was comparatively tougher compared to questions in the other two sections,” said Rajesh Kumar Gupta, a candidate, who appeared in the entrance test at St Mary’s School.
Another candidate Swati Sinha, who appeared in the examination, said: “The questions for both the physics and mathematics sections were tougher as compared to last year. I could not answer a few questions in both the sections. Though the questions were of objective type, but wrong answer would have led to negative marking.”
Every year, a large number of students appear in AIEEE test conducted in four cities across Jharkhand, including Jamshedpur, Ranchi, Bokaro and Dhanbad. Selected candidates as per ranking get an opportunity to take admission in the national institutes of technology (NITs), 13 deemed universities and four Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) at Allahabad, Gwalior, Guwahati and Hyderabad.
There are about 14,000 seats for which the engineering entrance examination is conducted. CBSE officials, who were in the city, said that the results of the entrance test would be declared on May 31.
Last year, 5.99 lakh students had appeared in the entrance test across the country, which this year surpassed 6 lakh.
