Jamshedpur, April 25: First clothes, then food. The education officials have adopted this strategy to woo students to night schools run across East Singhbhum district.
Children attending night schools across the district would soon sport comfortable uniforms, courtesy the district superintendent of education’s (DSE’s) office.
An attempt to enforce uniformity to reduce discrimination among children on the basis of their economic status, 1,125 students attending 18 night schools in the entire district would be given stitched uniforms for class hours.
A proposal to the state government has already been sent in this regard by district officials. A final nod is awaited before the plan can be introduced from the next fiscal.
“With the uniform in place, more school dropouts are likely to be brought into mainstream education,” said DSE P.N. Singh.
The responsibility would be on the district education officials to buy the material and get uniforms stitched.
Added to this would be the lure of evening snacks for students.
Talks are on for providing light refreshments to students of night schools in the evening to ensure that they regularly come to school.
“On the lines of mid-day meals in government schools, we are looking forward to provide children some food to ensure that they come to classes on a regular basis. The meals would be a source of nourishment for the underprivileged children,” added Singh.
Being seen as an integral part of the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyaan, the plans are few of the many for the schools covered under the central government programme of educating students aged between six and 14 years.
