JSCA poll minus sheen

Jamshedpur, April 24: The heightened activities and the glamour of heavyweight candidates of the yesteryears would be missing when the Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) goes to polls at Gumla on May 4 this year.

There is a strong possibility of the present JSCA chief, Amitabh Choudhary, getting a walkover in the election. Sources in the cricket fraternity revealed that lack of a heavyweight candidate with a proven track record has emerged as a stumbling block for the opposition camp.

“There is nobody from the opposition to fight for the post of the president. But, someone could be fielded in the elections, but that is a distant possibility,” sources said.

Moreover, the recent BCCI affidavit filed in the Supreme Court declaring JSCA as its full-time member has virtually derailed the strategy of the disgruntled groups.

According to the notification issued by the JSCA, the last day of filing nomination papers for the election is April 27 (till 12 noon).

The last day of withdrawing candidature is April 28 (till 12 noon). The list of candidates will be declared on the same day at 8pm. A.K. Singh has been named the electoral officer.

The contest will be for the posts of president, two vice-presidents, a secretary, a treasurer, a school and club representative as well as five committee members.

Besides, the district affiliates of the state cricket body will elect a vice-president and four committee members. While three committee members from the districts will be elected, the fourth member will be nominated by the outgoing managing panel of the JSCA.

Keeping in mind the convenience of the voters, the JSCA has decided to increase the number of booths during the upcoming polls.

There was lot of curiosity during the JSCA election in 2006. With the then home minister Sudesh Mahto throwing his hat in the ring, the polls had become high-profile.
