Cop hurt in mishap

A CISF constable was injured after being knocked down by a vehicle on CGR Road at 12.45pm on Wednesday. Bankim Paul was taken to Calcutta Port Trust Centenary Hospital. The vehicle was impounded.

Accident

Mohammad Iliyas was dashed by a private car on BB Ganguly Street around 7.45pm on Wednesday. He was taken to Medical College and Hospital. The driver has been arrested.

Dacoits held

Three alleged dacoits were arrested near Bondel Road autorickshaw stand on Wednesday. Police said the gang was plotting to break into a shop in the locality. Acting on a tip-off, the cops challenged the gang and arrested three, while the other members fled. “A pistol, two live cartridges and a chopper were among the items seized from them,” said an officer of Gariahat police station.

Body found

The body of a minor was found beside a pond near NSC Bose International Airport on Thursday afternoon. Police said there were several injury marks on the body of Mousumi Biswas, 11, a day labourer’s daughter.

Green award

ITC The Sonar Calcutta-The Luxury Collection has won the first prize at the Environment Excellence Award 2007. Virender Razdan and Tarun Chattopadhyay, the the resident manager and chief engineer of ITC The Sonar Kolkata received the award from industries minister Nirupam Sen on Tuesday.

Vaccination

The civic body will organise vaccination programmes for the employees of city eateries. The employees will be given typhoid and hepatitis-B vaccines.
