Fall from train kills man

Alipurduar, April 23: A 30-year-old man died on way to hospital after falling from the B-7 compartment of the Guwahati-bound Rajdhani Express at New Baneshwar area in Cooch Behar around 2.30pm today.

Bikash Chopra was brought to New Alipurduar station in a serious condition after some passengers spotted him lying near the tracks. He was rushed to the subdivisional hospital here. From there, he was referred to MJN Hospital in Cooch Behar. He died on the way.

A post-mortem will be done tomorrow, railway officials said.


Wife murder

Balurghat: Afsar Ali (50) of Mirzapur in Bangshihari hacked his first wife to death on Tuesday night after a salisi asked him to reject his third wife. The plumber had married Nasira and her younger sister Aklima. Recently, he brought another woman home as his wife, to which the two earlier wives objected, police said. Afsar is missing.


Animals freed

Siliguri: Residents of Millanpally here rescued a civet on Tuesday night and handed it over to the Sukna Wildlife Rescue Centre on Wednesday. A three-year-old female leopard was rescued from a trap laid at Malbazar’s New Glanco Tea Estate in Jalpaiguri on Wednesday. The animal was released at Gorumara National Park.


Road mishap

Islampur: Ramen Roy (25) of Tapan died in a road accident on Tuesday night at Gunjaria in Islampur. He was driving a motorcycle with his friend Amit on the pillion on NH31 and rammed into a stationary truck . Amit is under treatment at a hospital.
