Road to the big screen

She might have been eliminated from MTV Roadies 5.0 but Shambhvi Sharma from Delhi has got herself a deal that none of her co-Roadies have been able to achieve — a film with Ektaa Kapoor. The Little Godfather, which will feature a host of other new faces, is being directed by Joy Augustine (Tere Mere Sapne) and revolves around the hawkers in Mumbai. Reason enough for t2 to catch up with the pretty and perky Shambhvi…

Were you expecting to be selected for Roadies?

Actually I was expecting it. I was really confident. I was really happy when I was chosen as one of the top five Roadies. That too from Delhi where there were so many people.

Did you look up to any of the previous Roadies before the show?

I have been watching Roadies, the last two-three seasons. But I never follow anyone. I didn’t have a role model or anything. I liked Roadies because of the concept, because of the whole adventure of living together with 13 strangers. I am basically a very sporty person as well and I was looking forward to doing all the tasks on the show.

Did you find Raghu Ram intimidating?

I found him really nice. That, I guess, is because he has been really nice to me. Also, I find Raghu and Nikhil very witty and intelligent.

Did you expect the kind of stuff you had to do on the show?

I didn’t expect anything, to be honest. I never thought and planned anything. I had a feeling that I wouldn’t get along with the other girls on the show.

So there were no revelations along the entire trip…

I was so engrossed in the game you could not sit back and think what’s happening. There were surprises at every corner and one could never be prepared for them. It was reality at its toughest.

Did you make real friends on the show?

I guess I did. Varun was a real friend. He still is. Then Anmol and I got along quite well.

What about Prabhjot? You have had a love-hate relationship with the Chandigarh girl…

See when I beat the Calcutta girl Ankita Bajaj in the water test, I thought why not Prabhjot and me become friends? It was like a new start. All were strong competitors left on the show and it was important that the girls bonded together.

Are you happy with the way MTV has edited the show?

They have seen the whole concept. They were with us throughout. They know best what to show and what not to.

Did MTV Roadies 5.0 change you in anyway?

I have become more confident as a person. It’s not that I was shy or anything but I have certainly become more forward as a person. It has also made me very strong mentally. Other than that the popularity bit. Who doesn’t like being recognised on the streets? But yes, I am still what I am.

But the show has helped you to bag an Ektaa Kapoor film?

Yes, just after the second episode of Roadies, they liked me and they got in touch with me. It was as simple as that.

Was getting into the world of showbiz on the cards?

I don’t watch films actually (laughs). I am studying law. But when it happened I thought that people die to get into films and here I am getting such a golden opportunity. So why not?

How is the experience?

I have already started shooting and till now, it’s amazing. It’s certainly more relaxed than Roadies.
