Guwahati, April 18: Hours before Shah Rukh Khan unpacked his razzmatazz package at Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore, three little singers showed a rapt crowd in Guwahati today that you don’t always need moolah running into millions for some wholesome entertainment.
SaReGaMaPa Li’l Champ Anamika Choudhury, and two other midget contestants, Rohanpreet Singh and Tanmay Chaturbedi, did what even US-import Redskins would have found difficult to manage — make rowdy football spectators look like of an opera audience.
The occasion was ONGC I-League second division final at the Nehru Stadium here and, keeping with the trend of injecting a dose of entertainment splash into sport, the organisers came up with the idea of organising a rocking concert.
Rock the kids did, before Md Sporting and Mumbai FC took the field.
A minor technical snag in the floodlights, however, prevented the second match from being played.
But the sizeable crowd at the stadium, still in the midst of Bihu celebrations, was not complaining, as they were treated to a bouquet of Bollywood numbers and Bihu songs by the three youngsters.
Tanmay began the proceedings with Diwangi, a number from the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Om Shanti Om.
Rohanpreet brought the audience on its feet with Soni di nakhre from the film Partner and went on to add a few more.
But it was home girl Anamika — who has become the toast of Assam after winning the Zee TV reality show crown — who really left the crowd shouting for more.
In keeping with the festive spirit, she started off with a Bihu song from the popular album Jaanmoni.
She then proceeded to sing a few more numbers like Jhoom barabar jhoom, Pyar to hona hi tha and Maria Maria.
Dancers on the stage — who swayed to the songs — added colour.
The curtains on the exciting evening came down with a Bihu performance by a troupe.
“It may not be on the grand scale of the Indian Premier League but the entertainment was great. I thoroughly enjoyed it,” said a young soccer enthusiast Rohit Dutta.
