Imphal, April 18: Shuttler Ksh. Khelpati Devi served her way into the women’s singles semi-finals in the 1st State Ranking Badminton Championship at the MBA Indoor Stadium on DM College Campus today.
In a tough quarter-final match, Khelpati got the better of Achungmei of Chandel District Badminton Association 21-19, 21-18. Khelpati Devi will take on R.K. Miranda Devi of Eastern Sporting Union. Miranda had got a bye in the first round and qualified for a semi-final berth.
In the sub-junior boys category, Ch. Naoba Singh scored an easy win against R.K. Yaishana 21-5, 21-10, while Yaitomba Singh overcame Malemnganba Singh 21-10, 21-15.
Punshiba Singh defeated Herojit Singh 21-10, 21-10.
In the same category, Sanajaoba Singh went down to Umeshkumar Singh 9-21 in the first set, but bounced back to upset Umeshkumar 21-10, 21-15 in the subsequent sets. Don Singh outplayed L. Dickson Singh 21-18, 21-10, while Rokherei defeated Leninsana 21-16, 21-15 and Thoithoi Singh trounced Paomei 21-18, 21-11, for a quarter-final berth.
In the men’s single event, Satrajit Singh got a bye in the first round but ultimately bowed out to Sanjoy Singh 21-11, 21-9 in the second round. On the other hand, Ritesh Singh proved to be no match for Shasikumar Singh, going down 21-3, 21-1. Shasikumar defeated Momon Singh 21-19, 21-18 to reach the quarter-final.
