Armed man caught in court

Jamshedpur, April 17: Police today nabbed a man carrying a country-made pistol on the court campus under Sitaramdera police station.

The person, who was later identified as Vijay Singh, was carrying the firearm inside a bag when the officer in charge of Sitaramdera police station nabbed him in front of the court hazat.

Sources said that Singh was hiding the pistol inside a bag full of vegetables.

“He was trying to hand over the bag to two convicts who had come to the court on a date. Both the convicts were lodged inside the hazat,” they added.

Since there was a rush in front of the court hazat, Singh was unable to hand over the bag.

“However, he was nabbed by the Sitaramdera officer in-charge. Singh was frisked and his bag checked. Police found the pistol with the vegetables,” the source added.

He was immediately arrested and taken to Sitaramdera police station for interrogation.

Singh has not been forward to jail as yet.

Superintendent of police Naveen Kumar Singh said the man had a definite motive behind handing over the firearm to the convicts.

“Both the murder convicts were scheduled to be transferred to Ranchi Central Jail. In order to get them (the convicts) convicted in another case, Singh had framed this plan of handing over the pistol to them. But he got caught,” he said.

The superintendent of police added that the police had got wind of Singh’s plan after an acquaintance of Singh tipped them off.

He added that Singh had earlier tried to get cases lodged against the convicts but the police did not oblige.

The police superintendent added that they would now make immediate arrangements to shift the two convicts to Ranchi Central Jail.
