Jamshedpur, April 16: With temperatures crossing over 40°C and water crisis looming in the horizon, two leading social organisations in the city have promised some respite.
“With summer already at its peak, water crisis would become a major issue. So, we will construct permanent water reservoirs at several areas in the city where commuters can have chilled drinking water while they are out for some work,” said Vijay Anand, the secretary of Marwari Yuva Manch, Jamshedpur.
Called Amrit Dhara, these are water tankers that would supply chilled water 365 days a year. Apart from that, there would also be provisions for a water tap. “A small room has been constructed at the chosen location and the water would be procured from Jusco,” added Anand.
Already functional in Sakchi and Kadma bus stop, the next one would be at Dhatkidih. Apart from that, similar projects would also come up in Jugsalai, Mango, and Bistupur.
Jamshedpur Marwari Mahila Manch, too, has decided to construct drinking watersheds at various locations within the city.
“To begin with, we will construct three watersheds in Mango where water crisis is the maximum,” said Sushila Khirwal, a senior member at the NGO.
At least three watersheds would come up here but unlike in Amrit Dharas, water would not be chilled.
“We have also earmarked other locations where the services would begin like the one near the Gopal Maidan in Bistupur and another at Sakchi,” added Khirwal.
The NGO has also decided to construct temporary drinking watersheds in many areas.
