Child body in manhole

The body of six-year-old Mohammad Ishan was fished out on Wednesday morning from an open manhole in Brook Lane, in the city’s port area.

Ishan had gone missing on Tuesday afternoon while he was playing with neighbourhood boys near his house. His parents lodged a missing diary with West Port police station on Tuesday night.

According to an officer of West Port police station, Ishan must have fallen into the open manhole while playing on Tuesday afternoon. “He was playing and nobody noticed that he had fallen into the manhole. We conducted a probe and there is no foul play involved,” the officer added.

Around 10am, local youths noticed a body floating in the manhole and alerted the police station. The body was fished out and Ishan’s parents identified it. The body was sent for post-mortem.
