annual visit

Crazy about nuts

Have you ever heard of a bird that returns every year just in search of cake doughnuts? Well, a seagull called Steven has been returning to the Super 8 motel in Duluth, Minnesota, US each year, for a bite of his favourite doughnut. The general manager of the motel said that Steven comes to the motel around the same time every year and continues to tap at the front door of the lobby until he is given a doughnut. If his taps go unheeded, Steven starts squaking loudly to draw attention. And finally when he is given his much-loved doughnut, he makes sure no other bird gets a share. Steven seagull chases away all the birds that happen to hover in the vicinity. Over the years, the seagull has gained much popularity and attracts a fair number of guests who often arrive only to watch his antics.

new order

Hurt ’’ protected

Circles, a yellow-billed white duck, has become the first animal to receive an “order of protection” in New York state’s Suffolk county. The county issued the unique order after the duck sustained a serious injury in the neck by a neighbour’s pellet gun, Reuters reported. Circles was in its owner’s backyard on Long Island, when it was shot through the neck. It was rushed to the vet for medical attention and is recuperating from the wound. Circle’s owners were given the order after the erring neighbour was charged with animal cruelty.
