Arms seized, two held
Cooch Behar, April 15: Two youths were arrested from Chandrachoura in Kotwali this evening for possessing a cache of arms.
Police said Subhas and Tapan Murmu, possessed one .9mm pistol, a .32 bore revolver and three improvised guns. Twenty-three rounds of ammunition for the pistol, four rounds for the revolver and 62 rounds of .303 ammunition were seized from them. The duo, who work as honey sellers, are being interrogated. The police are trying to find out if they had supplied arms to extremist outfits or have links with them.
Body found
Islampur: The body of an unidentified youth, 30, was recovered from Panjipara in Goalpukhur on Tuesday. Police suspect the youth was killed in some other place and the body was dumped at the spot from where it was recovered.
Cheat held
Siliguri: Passang Yolmo, a former constable of the Central Reserve Police Force, was detained by police at Baghajatin Colony on Tuesday for allegedly cheating a youth by promising him a job with the paramilitary force in exchange for Rs 50,000. The accused had also provided a fake appointment letter to the youth.
Suicide
Islampur: Sajjad Ali (24) of Daspara in Chopra committed suicide by consuming poison on Monday night at his residence.
Run over
Islampur: Francis Burma (52), the manager of Telta railway station in Bihar’s Katihar district, was run over by a truck on NH34 at Karandighi on Tuesday. Police seized the vehicle but the driver escaped.
