Teams arrive for I-league
- Home team’s ouster results in lukewarm ticket sales despite nominal rates

Guwahati, April 15: The six teams participating in the final round of the ONGC I-League 2nd division have landed. The final league matches will be held at Nehru Stadium from April 18.

Mumbai FC, Mohammedan Sporting and Indian Bank landed here yesterday, while the remaining three teams, Vasco SC, Chirag United and Pune FC arrived today.

Two matches will be played on Friday — the inaugural day of the final league. The organisers, Assam Football Association (AFA) plans to hold one of the matches at a different venue, as the Nehru Stadium ground will be occupied for the inaugural ceremony.

Mumbai FC will take on Mohammedan Sporting in the first match, while Vasco will face Indian Bank in another tie the same day.

Sponsors Zee TV Li’l Champ singers Anamika Choudhury, Tanmay Chaturvedi and Sardar Rohanpreet will perform during the opening ceremony and Governor Ajai Singh will inaugurate the tournament.

Altogether 15 matches will be played with two matches on April 18, 22, 25 and 29 and on May 3. The first match will commence at 3pm and the second one will begin at 5.15pm.

There will be one match on April 19, 21, 26, 28 and May 2. The matches will be held from 5.15pm on these days and played under floodlights.

AFA secretary Ankur Dutta said the All India Football Federation has prepared the fixture in such a way that every team gets sufficient rest between two matches.

After the final league, four teams will qualify for the I-League’s next edition.

The Assam Football Association has fixed a nominal denomination for the tickets. The ticket denomination for concrete galleries is Rs 5 while for chairs it will be Rs 20 each. There would be season tickets costing Rs 200 each.

However, the tournament, which has so far witnessed sell out stadia in the earlier rounds, is unlikely to see a similar rush for tickets in Guwahati, particularly after home outfit Oil India Limited bowed out of the preliminary rounds of the league, finishing fifth in Group B at Kolhapur.

Moreover, the organisers were yet to take any visible initiatives to publicise the event. When asked, Dutta said Zee Sports was supposed to carry out the publicity business and has informed him that hoardings would be put up across the city during the tournament.
