3 killed in road mishap
Siliguri, April 13: Bidyut Roy (24) and his brother Dhruba (28), both residents of Debinagar, and Dhrubanath Singha (50) of Chapra in Darjeeling More died today when the motorcycle they were riding collided head-on with a truck near the Matigara bypass on NH31.
The trio were returning from Shibmandir, 11km from here. The brothers died on the spot, while Singha succumbed to injuries on way to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital. The truck has been seized, but the driver fled.
Shops gutted
Siliguri: Three shops were gutted at Darjeeling More here on Saturday night. Two fire engines from the Siliguri fire station doused the flame. The cause of fire is not known.
New party
Malda: Mohammed Shahid, who quit the Congress after being denied a party ticket for the Kharba Assembly by-election held on Saturday, has formed a new outfit Protibadi Congress Mancha. The new party will contest the coming panchayat polls in Malda, Shahid announced after launching the outfit at Chanchol on Sunday. The rebel leader was the Congress karmadhakshya of the Malda zilla parishad.
Run over
Islampur: Kanai Mondal (20), a resident of Ramakrishnapur in Chakulia, was run over by a truck on Sunday. The van rickshaw-puller was trying to cross NH31 when the mishap took place. Police seized the truck but the driver managed to escape.
Body found
Islampur: The body of an unidentified woman was found near Gunjaria on Sunday. Police said the woman was probably murdered in some other place.
