Singh shines among shuttlers

Jamshedpur, April 13: Displaying superb skills, Jairaj Singh defeated Vishal Saurabh to become the champion in the sub-junior boys’ singles category at the 21st Jamshedpur Open Badminton Tournament that concluded at the Mohan Ahuja Stadium here today.

Singh defeated Saurabh in straight sets 21-8, 21-16.

Playing with Mithilesh Kumar in the boys’ doubles junior category, Singh defeated Vishal Saurabh and Varun in straight sets 21-10, 21-16.

In the veterans’ doubles category final, the pair of G.C. Saha and S.S. Sahay defeated K. Prabhakar Rao and S.K. Singh in straight sets 21-14, 21-12.

In the veteran men’s singles category, Saha defeated Singh in straight sets 21-11, 21-19 to become the champion.

The pair of Sanat Jain and Rajesh Chowdhary went on to beat Amar Jyoti Bose and P.L. Manoj in the men’s doubles category 21-15, 21-11. The winning pair won the match convincingly.

In the men’s singles final Bose outclassed Vivek Sharma to become the champion. He won the match 21-11, 21-13.

A. Jyotika reigned supreme in different categories in the girls’ section.

To begin with, she defea- ted Deboshruti Biswas in the junior girls’ singles category 21-18, 21-11 to become victorious. She again took on Biswas in the sub-junior girls’ singles final and defeated her 21-19, 21-15 in a keenly contested match.

Jyotika’s winning streak did not stop there. With Kirti, she emerged victorious in the sub-junior girls’ doubles category. They outclassed Biswas and Revati in straight sets 21-10, 21-17.

Although Jyotika and Kirti won the first set easily, there was some stiff resistance from their opponents in the second.

The tournament, an annual event, witnessed participation of more than 200 shuttlers and was organised by Jamshedpur District Badminton Association.
