Ranchi, April 13: Gusty winds gave Ranchiites a welcome respite from the sweltering heat for a brief spell on a scorching Sunday.
But according to the weather scientists of Birsa Agriculture University, this is pre-monsoon season and heat spell would continue which can be described as characteristic feature of Jharkhand weather.
The maximum temperature recorded yesterday was 37.4ºC while today’s temperature recorded was 36.6ºC. Over the past five days, there was a seven-degree rise in temperature (on April 9, the maximum temperature was 30.8ºC).
A. Wadood, one of the weather scientists at the university, said that low pressure accompanied by high velocity wind and hailstorm is created automatically with a rise in heat. He added that it also results in cloud formation thereby reducing the speed of wind. “For the last five days, the temperature fluctuated and this weather condition would continue off and on,” the weather scientist warns.
Ramesh Kumar, another senior scientist at the university, said that the frequent change in weather condition is not a threat for the summer fruits and crops.
A family seen purchasing items at Firayalal Shopping Complex said that for the last few days they had been planning to buy wedding items.
“But due to high temperature it was not possible. Today at least the temperature was relatively low,” said one of the members of the family, Manjit Kumar.
Wadood said that the present weather condition could be described as temporary and not permanent.
“If there is a hot spell in the state, the local cloud formation would result in rain.” He further added that April is predicted as “vulnerable period” as far as weather is concerned.
