Groom lured back with shop

Alipurduar, April 11: The groom who did not turn up at his wedding on April 6 tied the knot at the bride’s house last night after his father promised to transfer the family ration shop in his name.

The couple had got the marriage registered on March 11 before Nabi Hussain got the jitters and skipped the social ceremony at his in-laws’ place.

However, Nabi, a resident of Chhoto Daldali, went to the house of Saifur Rahman at Shibkata last night and married Rehena Banu.

Nabi told Rahman that he skipped the wedding because his father, Faizuddin, did not transfer the shop to him. “Even after the marriage was registered, he did not hand it over to me. It is not possible for me to run a family without any income and so I left the house in protest.”

But as pressure mounted on him, Faizuddin promised Nabi that the shop would be transferred “as soon as possible”. Only after that did Nabi agree to the marriage.
