Gorkha body plans post card protest

Kurseong/Siliguri, April 11: The Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangh’s Kurseong chapter will urge Gorkhas across the country to send post cards to Union minister of state for home Shriprakash Jaiswal condemning the April 9 incident in Siliguri.

“At least 1.20 crore post cards should reach the minister from the community members scattered all over the country. We will also urge other communities to send similar post cards,” said Binod Prakash Sharma, the president of the organisation’s local chapter here.

Police lathi-charged and fired tear gas shells at a rally of ex-servicemen demanding Gorkhaland. Several rallyists were injured at Darjeeling More near Siliguri on April 9.

“We have urged every citizen here to send post cards to the minister condemning the police action,” said Sharma.

School and college students from across Kurseong today took out a rally, demanding Gorkhaland and condemning the incident. The rally was organised jointly by the Gorkha Janmukti Students’ Morcha and the All Gorkha Students’ Union.

In Siliguri, the conference of the SFI’s Darjeeling district will begin tomorrow and is likely to centre around the recent agitation for Gorkhaland. The meet at Bagdogra Chittaranjan High School will be attended by 220 delegates.
