Come home to stars
Saif puts a helmet on little Kartik Rana’s head before they go-kart

Saif Ali Khan gives go-karting lessons in Haryana. Mahendra Singh Dhoni solders printed circuit boards in a computer firm in Mumbai. Juhi Chawla organises parties in Saharanpur.

Yes, that’s what they did — for a day at least. Three lucky men — and their even luckier families — had the stars swapping a day in their lives with Saif, Dhoni and Juhi. The magic lamp was a packet of Kurkure.

Take Hiren Patel. The 22-year-old had nothing to eat at home. So out he went and bought a pack of Kurkure. “I had doubts about the claims in the card I found inside, yet I did as instructed.” Before he knew it, Hiren was in Ranchi zipping around town in the Indian ODI skipper’s Scorpio. “I met his first coach, Mr Banerjee, who said Dhoni used to be a goalkeeper. I also met his accounts teacher. He told us Dhoni was a good student but hardly attended lectures.”

And while he dug into Dhoni’s favourite Chilli Paneer, the star cricketer was toiling away in the Patel kitchen. “I heard he made tea and poori for my family. He also went to my brother’s computer office where they showed him how to solder PCBs. He learnt quickly!” The prize on labour day for Mahi was playing gully cricket with the Patel clan.

Juhi Chawla sent her Mercedes to pick up Paras Kakkar. He underwent a spa session before retiring to the Mehta mansion. Meanwhile, the chirpy heroine settled into the Kakkar house in Saharanpur. “It was my parents’ wedding anniversary. On hearing that, she threw a party, making all the invitations herself.”

The Rana family met Chhote Nawab on April 1. “We thought it was a fraud,” Umedh Singh Rana laughs. But after his day in Mumbai, he is richer by several suits (thanks to a sponsored trip to a mall), health tips (from Saif’s trainer Dev) and a smashing hair style (courtesy Saif’s stylist Alam). “Uss din main poora Saif lag raha tha. Par dance class mein steps nahin seekh paya!

Saif met the Ranas in Gurgaon. “He took us out for lunch and told us how he hated the tiffin his mother (Sharmila Tagore) would send and how he fought with classmates to eat their tiffin instead,” laughs Umedh’s wife Lalita. He even took the three Rana boys go-karting. The royal parting gift? Salwar-suits and T-shirts.

If you want to check what Saif’s sartorial preferences are, tune into Chala Change Ka Chakkar on STAR Utsav at 7.30pm this Saturday.
