Ranchi, April 10: Powered by Ishank Jaggi’s unbeaten half-century, Telcon, Jamshedpur, today won the S Dayal Memorial trophy and Rs 51,000 at the maiden Twenty20 cricket tournament held in the state capital.
The Telcon opening pair of Saurabh Tiwary and Ishank Jaggi tore apart the attack of International Auto, Jamshedpur, to put on 77 runs in nine overs, when Saurabh holed out to long off while trying to hit offie Kishore Gope out of the ground.
Saurabh had already done his bit, scoring 41 runs from 28 balls with three sixes and four boundaries. This was the first time that he was dismissed in this tournament.
Two quick wickets, those of Madhusudan and Somen Lodha, fell in succession and promised to make the final tournament a lively affair.
Left-hand batsman Sujit Yadav walked in to join Ishank at that juncture.
Playing sensible cricket they easily reached the International Auto score of 126 in the 19th over, when Yadav lofted the third ball of that over for a six over mid-wicket.
Jaggi remained not out on 55 (of 45 balls) with five boundaries and a six. This was his conse-cutive unbeaten 50 in the tournament. He deserved the man of the tournament award and a cash price of Rs 11,000.
The bowler of the tournament award and a costly pair of dark sun-glass went to Shahid Khan of International Auto, Jamshedpur.
Like the semi-finals, the final today turned out to be a one-sided affair as International Auto, Jamshedpur, was bowled out for 126 runs. The last wicket fell in the last ball of the innings.
While Mohshin Khan top scored with 41 runs and six boundaries, Subrata Behra scored 23 runs.
For Telcon, Bachcha Singh claimed four wickets for 21 runs in his four allotted overs and Ashish took two wickets giving 10 runs in three overs.
The runners-up, International Auto, had to be satisfied with a trophy and a cash award of Rs 25,000.
