Students beat up teachers

Siliguri, April 9: Five HS candidates at the Netaji Boys’ High School centre beat up two teachers when they were warned against breaking furniture in the name of celebrating the last day of examinations this afternoon.

Tamal Chandra, the district secretary of the All Bengal Teachers’ Association, said the students smashed chairs and tables at the school. When the teachers asked the students to leave the campus, they became angry and beat them up, the association claimed. The school authorities have filed an FIR with the Siliguri police.


Forger held

Islampur: Police arrested Sukhen Thikadar, a resident of Ranaghat in Nadia, on Tuesday night for allegedly forging a certificate of the Pharmacy Council of India.


Tea strike off

Alipurduar: Workers of Dima Tea Estate in Kalchini, who went on strike on Tuesday, joined duty on Wednesday after the management agreed to pay them their dues in two instalments per month.


Rail award

Alipurduar: The commercial section of Alipurduar railway division has won the award for the best commercial section of the Northeast Frontier Railway for 2007-08 based on its performance.


Cars seized

Alipurduar: Police on Tuesday seized a Tata Sumo and a Bolero, both bound for Assam, at the Samuktala check post on NH 31C after fake documents were recovered from the vehicles. Four persons were arrested and they were produced in Alipurduar court on Wednesday.
