Four decomposed bodies in Hooghly

Three decomposed bodies of men and one of a woman were recovered from the Hooghly on Wednesday. Two male bodies were found floating near Panighat around 1.30pm, while the third was recovered from Bichalighat. Police said the bodies are yet to be identified. The body of the woman, who was later identified as Manju Mitra, 55, was found floating near Millennium Park jetty. Police said she drowned in the Howrah side of the river while taking a bath.

Schoolboy falls off bus

Saurav Jatua, 13, a student of Class VII in South Point School, fell off a CSTC bus at the crossing of Rashbehari Avenue and Cornfield Row on Wednesday. Jatua, who was trying to get off, sustained injuries in the head and was rushed to AMRI by bystanders. Police said the vehicle could not be traced.

Cell shop robbed

Burglars took away more than Rs1.50 lakh from a cellphone shop at Serampore, in Garia, on Tuesday night. Police said that on Wednesday morning, shop owner Jaydipta Bhowmik found the locks of the showroom’s main gate broken and that a number of cellphones and SIM cards had been taken away.

Hit and run

A 55-year-old unidentified woman sustained serious injuries after being dashed by a Qualis on Mahatma Gandhi Road early on Wednesday. She was rushed to Medical College and Hospital. Police are yet to trace the vehicle.

Labourer dies

Sunny Naik, 21, a labourer, fell from the seventh floor while working on the scaffolding of a clinic on AJC Bose Road, beside Gorky Sadan, on Wednesday afternoon. He was removed to SSKM Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.

Knocked down

Mina Bibi, 25, was critically injured after being hit by a motorcycle at the Chittaranjan Avenue-Balaram Dey Street crossing around 11.30am on Wednesday. A resident of Basirhat, Mina was removed to Medical College and Hospital.

Tram victim

Sanjoy, 25, an HRBC contractor’s labourer, was run over by a tram while he was asleep on the tracks on Rashbehari Avenue on Wednesday. He was rushed to SSKM Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.

Girl’s body

The body of an unidentified girl, aged about a year and a half, was found near TL Jaiswal Hospital, in Bally, on Wednesday morning. Local residents found the body and alerted police. Niraj Kumar Singh, the superintendent of police (Howrah), said there was no injury mark on the body. Police have started an investigation.
