RSP sticks to meet boycott

Siliguri, April 8: Rejecting the district Left Front’s plea for reconsideration, the RSP has decided to go ahead with its decision to boycott an all-party convention of the Siliguri Municipal Corporation on April 10.

“We carefully considered the request and we felt that the party must not participate in an event that would only strengthen forces that are creating rift in the hills-plains unity. We have informed the convener about the decision and instructed our councillors not to attend the meet,” said Benoy Chakraborty, the secretary of the Darjeeling RSP. He added that the decision was taken at a secretariat meeting today.

Jibitesh Sarkar, the state committee member of the CPM, said his party did not see the RSP decision as a rift within the front.
