SC eases Maya bar

New Delhi, April 8: The Supreme Court today allowed the Uttar Pradesh government to carry out temporary construction at the Ambedkar Park in Lucknow for the upcoming Ambedkar Jayanti on April 14. But permanent structures will not be allowed.

The state government had approached the apex court to reverse the Allahabad High Court order restraining it from carrying out construction at the park which had been deemed a green belt by the high court .

Boy torture

Kochi (PTI): A Nepali couple who allegedly stripped and beat a 10-year-old boy after tying him to a gate has been arrested.The boy has been sent to a children’s home. Police were called to the scene by passers-by and are verifying if the boy is the couple’s son.

Cop suicide

Chandigarh (PTI): A Punjab police head constable, his wife and his son were found dead at their home at Mohali on Tuesday, police said. The police suspect Bhupinder Singh first killed his wife and son and then shot himself. There was no witness and no suicide note was found.

Goa charge

Panaji (PTI): A Goa-based NGO filed a police complaint on Tuesday accusing state advocate-general Subodh Kantak of cheating the state exchequer. The organisation has alleged that the advocate-general had served the state with multiple bills to fight a rioting case two years ago. The issue had figured in the recently concluded state legislative assembly with the BJP demanding an inquiry.

Girl charred

Mumbai (PTI): An 18-year-old girl died and her mother was critically burnt after a kerosene stove exploded at their hutment in suburban Chembur on Tuesday, police said. Ratnamala Vishwas Sable has been admitted to hospital.

Caste clash

Bangalore (PTI): A person died of gunshot wounds in a clash between upper castes and Dalits at a Karnataka village on Monday night, police said. A remark by an upper caste member while a Dalit procession was passing by sparked the clash.
