Fresh clue in dowry death

Jamshedpur, April 8: Four days after 22-year-old bride Babita Chowdhury fell victim to an alleged dowry murder, police are yet to arrest her absconding father-in-law Naresh Chowdhury.

In the meantime, deputy superintendent of police (Mango) S.K. Sinha, while visiting the mishap site today, found broken bangles lying on the terrace and the staircase.

The broken bangles raised doubts about the claim that Babita had jumped to her death from the four-storeyed building. Sinha conceded that there were broken bangles lying at the spot from where Babita had jumped, but failed to confirm if the bride was thrown off the terrace or had committed suicide.

“We have already registered a case of dowry death in this connection. We are awaiting the post-mortem report. The recovery of broken bangles from the terrace gives rise to suspicion that the deceased had been tortured before she fell from the terrace,” said the police officer.
