Raped at eighty
Chhatarpur, April 6 (PTI): An 80-year-old woman was allegedly raped by a 35-year-old man at a village in Madhya Pradesh last night.
The woman was fetching water from a well when she was raped and left unconscious. The victims son reached the spot immediately but was threatened by the accused, who later fled the scene. The woman was admitted to hospital and her condition is reported to be serious. A case has been registered and investigations are on, police said.
Bird hit
Bangalore (PTI): A Coimbatore-bound JetLite aircraft was on Sunday hit by a bird just before take-off but the 160 passengers and crew were safe. The flight was aborted after the bird slammed into its undercarriage.
No-honk day
Mumbai (PTI): The city polices traffic department will observe World Health Day, April 7, as no honking day since noise pollution has an impact on health. Hoardings, posters and stickers carrying information about the campaign have been put up across Mumbai so that motorists dont honk on that day.
Bomb hoax
Coimbatore (PTI): A person was arrested for allegedly making a hoax call warning of a bomb explosion on April 3 at a CPM rally here, attended by about 50,000 party workers. Police nabbed Thekkamalai, a travel agency driver in the city, whose mobile number had been recorded on the caller identification system.
House prices
Mumbai (PTI): The Maharashtra government plans to have a panel that will fix the prices of low and middle-income group houses built by private realtors. A bill to set up the housing regulatory commission will be tabled during the ongoing budget session.
Bear attack
Srinagar (PTI): A wild bear attacked and injured a person in Jammu and Kashmir, sources said. It had strayed on Sunday into into Gath Mohalla off the Srinagar-Jammu national highway. Bear and leopard attacks have killed or injured many this year.
