Suicide for money
Gopal Banerjee, 45, an assistant manager of a nationalised insurance company, hanged himself on Sunday at his Gorabazar residence in Dum Dum. Banerjee leaves behind two children. His wife had taken the younger daughter for tuition in the afternoon when he committed suicide. Police recovered a suicide note from Banerjees shirt pocket, in which he cited financial problems as the reason for his killing himself.
Flight snag
A Guwahati-bound flight of Air India returned to Calcutta within half an hour of taking off on Sunday evening after the aircraft developed a snag. The flight was carrying 37 passengers. The snag was repaired and the flight took off again at 7.25pm.
Couple hurt
Sudhir Das, a 40 year old resident of Kasba, and wife Namita, 34, were injured in an attack by a gang of five that broke into their house on Saturday night. Sudhir is a supplier of building materials.
Car crash
Seven members of a family, including a 12-year-old girl, were injured when the taxi they were travelling in hit a tree near Fort William on Sunday afternoon.
