Fake theft to claim bike policy

Balurghat, April 4: Lutfar Rahman, a resident of Balapur, was arrested today for cooking up the theft of his motorcycle to claim insurance.

Police said the 41-year-old-man had dismantled the two-wheeler and sold the engine to a criminal who smuggled it to Bangladesh.

Rahman then complained to Balurghat police that his motorcycle was stolen on February 8 from the compound of a hospital here when he went to meet a relative. Armed with the police diary, he filled up papers to claim the insurance.

The police stumbled on the case while interrogating the criminal, Nimai Mondal, who said he had bought the engine from Rahman and sold it in Bangladesh.
