Hospital rap for accused
- Teenagers fall victim to night prowlers in the Dooars

Birpara (Alipurduar), April 4: The Birpara State General Hospital has decided to suspend a Group D employee who has been accused of raping a 15-year-old girl in the staff quarters. The teenager was staying with her sister who had been admitted to the female ward.

The hospital authorities have also decided not to allow the parking of any private vehicles, including private ambulances, on the campus.

Ishan Das, the main accused, had allegedly threatened the girl of dire consequences if she spilled the beans. Two drivers of private ambulances have been charged with helping Das and named in the FIR along with him. All three are missing.

Arun Kumar Bala, the superintendent of the hospital, said Das had got the job in September last year.

“I came to know about the March 31 incident on Wednesday when Das was being beaten up by some local boys. I informed the police. Later, I heard that the girl, too, had lodged an FIR. The police had come but he fled by then. Once he is arrested, he will be suspended within 24 hours,” said Bala.

The superintendent also said the final decision to stop all illegal car parking on campus would be taken at this month’s meeting of the Patient Welfare Committee.
