Students gherao principal

Siliguri, April 1: Students of Siliguri Institute of Technology’s MBA Part-II course today gheraoed the principal and faculty members, demanding that placement interviews be held on the campus here instead of Calcutta.

Authorities of Techno India Group, which runs the institute, recently called three representatives of the students and a few members of the governing body to Calcutta to discuss the issue with the central placement cell of the group.


PF adalat

Siliguri: Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) Organisation will hold a Bhavishyanidhi Adalat on April 10 in its Jalpaiguri office. EPF subscribers of the Jalpaiguri region can register their names before April 4.


Petty arrests

Siliguri: In a special raid, 47 people from the Siliguri subdivision were arrested on Monday for petty cases. Police said 500 litres of adulterated liquor were seized in the raid.


Enthroned

Gangtok: Lobzang Jigme Wangchuk, the four-year-old reincarnation of Tromogeshe Rimpoche, a high order in the Gelugpa sect of Buddhism, was enthroned at his seat in Enchey Kothi here on Tuesday. The monk is the head of Tharpacholing monasteries.


BDO assault

Raiganj: Karandighi BDO Md Samuel Alam was assaulted by a youth from Roshakhoya village when he had gone to his office for some clarification of his voter ID card. The youth was later arrested on the basis of a complaint by the district magistrate.
