11 hurt in bus mishap
Eleven people, including the driver, were injured after a private bus (WBS 4586) on route 30B crashed into a lamp post, in front of Moulali Yuva Kendra, around 10.50am on Tuesday. The injured were rushed to NRS Medical College and Hospital, where passenger Shatrughan Manna, 53, and bus driver Kamal Hazra, 52, were admitted with fractures in their arms and legs. The other nine injured were treated and discharged. The bus was impounded.
Child injured
B. Ganesh Rao, 4, was injured after a CTC bus (WB04-5762) on route C-7 hit him at the Mominpore-Diamond Harbour Road crossing on Tuesday. The boy, a resident of Cornfield Road, was with his family. He suffered minor cuts and bruises on his right leg. The bus was impounded and the driver arrested.
Collision
B>n Motorcyclist Dhananjoy Ghosh, 40, a resident of Gope Lane, was knocked down and injured by a private bus (WBS-3669) on route number 47/1 on Rani Rashmoni Avenue around 11.20am on Tuesday. The bus and the motorcycle were impounded and the bus driver was arrested.
Road death
Asish Roy, 52, a resident of Kanchrapara, in North 24-Parganas, was found lying unconscious at the Elliot Road-McLeod Street intersection around 4pm on Tuesday. Police took him to SSKM Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. The victim, a paint contractor, was in a cream safari suit and was carrying a briefcase. It is suspected that he had suffered a heart attack.
Workshop
Apollo Gleneagles Hospitals has organised a live workshop on computer-assisted knee replacement on Wednesday, in the presence of Hans Peter Scharff, a senior consultant orthopaedic surgeon from anheim, in Germany.
Van crashes
The driver of a Matador and his help were injured when the vehicle rammed into the gate of an office on Satya Doctor Road, in the Watgunge area, around 5.15 pm on Tuesday. The injured were taken to SSKM Hospital. The van was impounded.
