Tales from Italy
The Consul General of Italy in Calcutta, in collaboration with Nandan West Bengal Film Centre and Roopkala Kendra, is screening a package of Italian films (with English sub-titles). To be screened today are Callas Forever (dir: Franco Zeffirelli, 4 pm) and C’era una Volta il West (Once Upon A Time in the West; dir: Sergio Leone, 6.30 pm). The former film (a still from it appears above) is a fictionalised account of the last days of opera singer Maria Callas. The latter is the epic story of a mysterious stranger with a harmonica who joins forces with a notorious desperado to protect a beautiful widow from a ruthless assassin working for the railroad.

April 2 at Sisir Mancha; 6.30 pm: Aritra felicitates poet Dipak Lahiri along with a reading session of his poems. Also, a solo recital of Tagore songs by Sumita Das. The evening’s programme will be introduced by Pranati Tagore. April 4 at Padatik Little Theatre, 6/7 AJC Bose Road; 7 pm: Padatik presents a music session by the Violin Brothers, Debshankar Roy and Jyotishankar Roy. Along with them, theatre actor/director Kunal Padhy will be on the V-drums. April 5 at Calcutta School of Music, 6B Sunny Park; 7 pm: Bettina Breese from Germany will present Bharata Natyam and Kuchipudi dance recitals.
